I teach eighth-grade U.S. history and also do academic administration at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada, California. In over two decades of teaching, I’ve taught English to seventh, eighth and ninth graders as well as world history to ninth graders and U.S. history to 11th graders.

My first book, Making History Mine: Meaningful Connections for Grades 5–9 (Stenhouse, 2009), gives ideas for making history personal, and my second book, Creating Citizens: Teaching Civics and Current Events in the History Classroom (Routledge, 2017), suggests ways to discuss the news in the context of today’s challenges.
