Yacht Designer - Exterior Outfit in Wroxham
Purpose of Role
Responsible for the delivery of production information for the exterior outfit of the yachts and support to the manufacturing staff for deck outfit and rig for Oyster 565 and 595 models primarily. To also contribute to the processing of other design information in the form of weight management and design development.
Key Job Responsibilities
· Produce and release design information to the production team for the fit out of the yachts
· Issuing of design information to external suppliers and fabricators
· Work with production team and fabricators to ensure corrections and updates are made where necessary – updating the designs and methods to make reduce lost time and complication where possible.
Maintain and update design information databases (drawings issue registers / weight estimates etc) Sail plans/ deck plans/ General Arrangements Deck fittings Specification of standard parts Design/ development of custom parts Custom fabrications Stainless steel fabrications Exterior mechanical designs and installations, e.g. Passerelles, biminis, deck hatches Cradle design, Docking plans and load calculations Rigging component design/ development in collaboration with suppliers Surface modelling and GRP tooling design desirable Input into Weight Studies and assistance with Naval Architecture as required.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications required to perform the role
Knowledge
· Practical Knowledge of Sailing Yachts and good general knowledge of yachts.
· Good understanding of stainless steel/aluminium and composite fabrication techniques
· Good understanding of the design / specification of sailing systems (hydraulic rams, furlers, winches etc…)
Skills
· Good knowledge of 3D parametric modelling (NX Preferred but not essential)
· 2d AutoCAD draughting
· Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office – particularly Excel)
· Ability to read and produce technical information
· Good grasp of basic mechanical systems
Experience
· Practical experience within the marine industry
· Good knowledge of sailing yachts.
Qualifications
· Degree level qualification in some form of technical design or engineering (desired)
· Equivalent proficiency and experience in a related field.
Personal Characteristics
The right candidate will have a very strong yachting background. A proven track record in sailing yacht design and practical sailing knowledge is essential in order to maintain and develop the Oyster brand.
· Be self-motivated and have the initiative to work through problems and maintain momentum.
· Good ability to understand and produce design/production information in drawings.
· Attention to detail is important as well as an ability to make decisions.
The ability to communicate with other departments and with external parties to ensure tasks are completed to a good standard and delivered in good time. · This is a Wroxham based position with a requirement to travel to other sites on occasion.
